Its platform transforms vast streams of data and signals into actionable business intelligence to guide strategy, risk management, scenario planning, and daily decision-making. Mission Grey has offices and operations in the USA, France, Finland, and Singapore, serving customers worldwide. As part of Mission Grey’s collaboration with universities and research institutions, Aleksi Pikkarainen completed his Master’s thesis on how to turn news into real-time geopolitical risk indices using AI and sentiment analysis. The master thesis presentation is now available and shows how modern tools can make risk tracking faster, broader, and more accurate. The work focused on extracting country-specific geopolitical signals from large volumes of news data. With a combination of text classification, named entity recognition, and sentiment scoring, the project produced working software that can automatically detect whether news increases or decreases perceived geopolitical risk. Out of several methods tested, the most effective index compared a country’s Geopolitical Risk (GPR) related news to the total global news volume. This approach was responsive, reliable, and aligned with established benchmarks, but with the advantage of being real-time and easily scalable. This research shows that tracking geopolitical developments no longer needs to rely on slow or manual processes. With the right tools, it can be fast, continuous, and tailored for practical use in global decision-making. Mission Grey continues to work on related research and product development in this area. We welcome new partnerships and encourage students and academic institutions to get in touch if they’re interested in similar collaboration. (Presentation attached.)
